Last week we brought you a short summary of an incident that occurred during a Mankato poker game. A man was knocked in the head with a baseball bat by Jimmy Lee Turner. Both men were participating in the home poker game. More details have surfaced about the incident and are listed below.
The poker game took place in a garage and the police were called to the residence because two or three men were fighting outside the home. The call was received at 11:35pm and when they arrived on scene they found that Randy Stoltzman who told police that his friend had been hit on the head with a baseball bat.
The victim was David Wojciechowski and he was looked over by police and an ambulance was called to treat his head wound. The officers continued to check out what happened and this was what was stated. Jimmy Lee Turner, the assailant and David had a violent past.
Stoltzman had a sister who had dated both David and Turner off and on for the past ten years. The sister is believed to be the source of the argument. One month prior to the baseball bat incident, David punched Turner in the head and knocked him out after Turner came to David’s house and an argument took place.
Stoltzman told police that the men decided to play poker and David soon received a text message. He got up from the poker table and left the garage. Turner followed David outside and hit him over the head with a baseball bat. Stoltzman was not able to stop Turner before he got one good hit in on David. Turner then got in his car and left stated he was going to return and ‘shoot up the place’.
Turner was arrested and charged with second degree assault, disorderly conduct and terrorist’s threats. Turner was able to have a bail set at $50,000 but it was conditional on him not contacting David Wojciechowski or Stoltzman.

A few years ago Ted Moustakis purchased several items of poker memorabilia items of the popular television show Star Trek from a Christie’s auction. The auction was huge and catered to fans of Star Trek. The auction was so huge that the History Channel streamed the auction live for people to view. Now Moustakis is suing Christie’s for selling him knock-offs.
Moustakis purchased three items during the auction: a $6,600 poker visor, an $11,000 poker table and a $6,000 uniform, all worn and used by his favorite Star Trek character Commander Data. According to the NY Post, Moustakis claims that Christie’s intentionally lied about the items he purchased.
Moustakis claimed the items he purchased were said to be ‘one of a kind’ and ‘used by Data himself’. But once Moustakis met Brent Spiner, the man who plays Data, he was told by Spiner that the visor he had purchased was not ‘his visor’. According to Moustakis, more research was done to prove that all the items were bogus. He found that the uniform was one of many created for the television show.
However, just this week, the case against Christie’s was dropped by a panel of judges. They commented that Moustakis ‘should just have asked for his money back…not boldly sued for a small fortune.” Even actors from Star Trek commented on the suit. Wil Wheaton of Star Trek commented when the suit was first filed that ‘there is no one of a kind spacesuits for regular cast members…I think it’s more likely that this guy has buyer’s remorse.”
Both CBS Consumer Products, who oversees Star Trek merchandise and Christies Auction House, both, praised the ruling of the court. Christie’s continues to stand behind the authenticity of their auction and the items sold during that time.

The long-awaited City Center project – a 31 hectare urban complex of skyscrapers – has been unveiled in the heart of Las Vegas, including the Aria Casino and a brand new poker room that Nevada has been rushing to try.

Within seconds of the doors opening on December 16, players were crowded around 18 tables that spread games like $1/$3 and $2/$5 No Limit Hold’em and $3/$6 Limit Hold’em. The early nights in the poker room also saw $4/$8 Omaha High-Low and other mixed games being played.

Furthermore, they have their answer to Bobby’s Room – Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius and Guy LaLiberte were all spotted in the VIP area of Aria.

Apparently, talks are underway with Phil Ivey to loan his name to the room in the same way that Bobby Baldwin did. Perhaps in future we’ll hear about the multi-million dollar pots won and lost in Phil’s Room?

Harrah’s has just released the 2010 World Series of Poker schedule which will once again be held at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Running from May 27th to July 17th 2010, there will be a total of 57 coveted gold bracelets up for grabs – equal to that of last year.
The biggest change to the schedule sees the $50,000 HORSE event replaced with the $50,000 Player’s Championship. Not only is it the first open bracelet event of the series, but it will also carry the prestigious Chip Reese Memorial Trophy and follow an eight-game format with the first four days playing Limit Hold’em, Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, Seven Card Razz, Seven Card Stud, Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better, No-Limit Hold’em, Pot-Limit Omaha and 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball, with the final table being No Limit Hold’em.
With the change in format, ESPN will be providing television coverage of this event as it serves as the true test of the game’s greatest all-round player and the no limit format of the final table will appear to the viewing audience. For those people that would love to sit next to Doyle, Phil and Barry in the Player’s Championship but don’t have a spare $50,000 lying round, then there are a $1,500, $3,000 and a newly formed $10,000 HORSE Mini-Championship on offer.
An event that is truly going to attract some of the world’s best players also will be the newly formed Event 52: $25,000 No Limit Holdem Six-Handed event which is set to begin on Wednesday June 30th. With a 75,000-chip starting stack containing 250-big blinds, it will no doubt be a great event to play, watch or follow online.
Another first at the WSOP next year will see the first five weekends of the series featuring a $1,000 No Limit Holdem event with two starting flights. Following the success of the $1,000 No Limit Holdem events in 2009 – one in which saw a non-Main Event record of 6,012 entrants – the new scheduling will attract the tournament first-timer to the hardened veteran with the lure of huge prizepools and a gold bracelet. Just days before the Main Event commences, the final $1,000 No Limit Holdem event of the schedule will provide players one last opportunity to snatch their piece of WSOP immortality before the big dance.
Concluding with the $10,000 Main Event, play will begin on Monday July 5th and finish on Saturday July 17th when the final nine players are reached. Just like the previous two years, play will be halted as the “November Nine” get their fifteen minutes of fame, until November 6th where play will resume on the final table before a live audience.
“Whatever your game and whatever your bankroll, the 2010 WSOP schedule offers something for everyone,” said WSOP Tournament Director Jack Effel, who will oversee the event for the fifth consecutive year. “We are planning for the largest WSOP ever and look forward to welcoming all players to the Rio in Las Vegas next summer.”
Player comfort is also being addressed with gold bracelet tournaments – excluding the Main Event – starting at 12 noon or 5pm each day with a maximum of ten one-hour or eight one-hour levels for each respective start. Re-starts for 12pm events will be at 2:30pm while 5pm events will restart at 3pm with a maximum of ten levels being played each day until a champion is crowned. Registration will remain open until the start of the third level or until all available seats have been sold.
Following such a successful 2009 WSOP that featured over 60,000 entries from 115 countries competing for more than $174 million, next year’s series is a certainty to surpass those figures due to such a well-rounded schedule being announced.

Baldwin has capped a fine season by winning the 2009 Player of the Year award. The 26-year-old won his first WSOP bracelet earlier this year, taking down the $1,500 Limit Hold’em event for a score of over half a million dollars. He got close to bracelet number two with a third place finish in the $10,000 PLO World Championship and has continued his excellent run by winning the $1,000 side event at the recent Doyle Brunson Classic, bagging almost $300,000.

A delighted Baldwin said, “It’s awesome to be a part of Team UB. Every player has different styles and different outlooks. It’s going to be great to be in contact with such great players and people, and we’re going to make each other better. We’re also going to work to improve the brand and help the site grow and be the best that it can be.”

Annie Duke added, “Eric Baldwin isn’t just a new UB pro, he is UB. Eric loves this game more than anything in the world, he plays to win, and he’s respected for his passion at the tables. We really couldn’t be more ecstatic to have the Player of the Year on our team.”

He joins a team that includes Phil Hellmuth, Joe Sebok, Brandon Cantu and Liv Boeree.
